Get to know Rockport

Josh Clark, President: 

Music and music systems have been central to Josh Clark’s life for as long as he can remember. Growing up, his father’s hi-fi was always playing jazz, classical records, or New York radio, and among Josh’s earliest memories is looking up at the enormous Altec Lansing horn speakers on the family’s living-room bookshelf, marveling at the power and scale of the sound.

Josh began playing cello in third grade before switching to trumpet in fifth grade, eventually earning a college degree in musicology and performance and going on to play classical trumpet professionally. At the same time, he had always been fascinated by science and engineering—taking things apart to understand how they worked and, occasionally, managing to put them back together.

By his sophomore year of high school, Josh had realized that loudspeaker design could bring those two passions together. He began building DIY speakers and later studied music and physics in college with the specific goal of working for a high-end loudspeaker company.

After graduating, Josh joined Transparent Audio, where he spent 22 years learning virtually every aspect of the high-end audio business. He ultimately served as Operations Manager and Director of Product Development, helping develop world-class cable and power products for reference audio systems.

In 2019, Josh returned to the dream he had first imagined as a teenager when he purchased Rockport Technologies, succeeding company founder Andy Payor. Today, Josh and Andy work side by side developing new Rockport loudspeakers and exploring just how far a music system can go in recreating the realism—and emotional connection—of live music.

Jon Zimmer, Director of Sales: 

Jon Zimmer is Director of Sales at Rockport Technologies and has spent more than 20 years in the high-end audio industry. His career began on the retail sales floor at Stereo Exchange in New York City, followed by running his own independent rep firm in the Tri-State area, six years as Director of Marketing at Transparent Audio, and nearly seven years at Rockport Technologies.

Jon’s passion for music started at age six, digging through his father’s record collection and discovering artists like Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. That early obsession with music still drives what he loves most about working in high-end audio: introducing people to great music and helping them experience it in a deeper way.

Jon lives in South Portland, Maine with his wife and three children. Outside of audio, he enjoys photography, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, running, Zen meditation, and making excellent espresso.
