My initial, and final, reaction happened to be the same — I wanted to hear more of it...The Amati is a whole different animal, more tiger than leopard. It’ll play big, and by big, I mean huge. -Scot Hull, Part-Time Audiophile
Homage Tradition collection is a new tribute to the mastery of Italian violin-making; the now classic lute shape, the hallmark of Sonus faber production, has been revisited and taken to new heights. Sonus faber's Chief Design Officer, Livio Cucuzza, and Head of Research & Development, Paolo Tezzon, headed up the team responsible for reimagining the Homage collection.
Amati Tradition, flagship of the Homage Tradition Collection, is the new reference floor standing loudspeaker in the Sonus faber catalogue. Amati is named for Andrea Amati, forefather of the violin making tradition of Cremona, Italy. Andrea developed guidelines for techniques of construction, and shapes and proportions of string instruments as we know them nowadays. Amati Tradition represents the synthesis of original concepts and architectural ideas.
The Amati Tradition is a 3.5 way, vented box design Sonus faber calls a “Stealth Ultraflex” system with Zero Vibration Transmission technology. “Stealth Ultraflex” is a well thought out external port in the back panel of extruded aluminum and controls the flow of air through the duct while controlling its speed and reducing any air noise and hence, distortion. The back is also part of the exoskeleton system complete with Dampshelves on the top and bottom of the speakers.
The world of ancient shipyards and the tradition of Italy’s shipwrights are the inspiration for the design of the Tradition collection. The new Wengè finish with maple inlays (a reference to the walnut finish of Olympica models) is the true aesthetic novelty of the collection and immediately links it with the elegant and timeless design of the most famous Italian motor-boats with their iconic wooden hulls.
