Audio Research Co. DSPre Preamplifier
The DSPre Preamp-DAC combines the award-winning DAC8 digital-to-analog converter with a fully-balanced active analog preamplifier, providing a level of flexibility and sound quality that is startling.
The preamplifier section of the DSPre is all-analog, pure Class-A, with zero feedback. The analog section has two fully balanced analog inputs and three single-ended inputs, plus a total of five digital inputs: USB 2.0 high speed inputs with proprietary Mac & Windows drivers, plus four S/PDIF inputs via coax, Toslink, BNC, and AES/EBU connectors. The DAC feature allows custom-labeling for each input. This unit utilizes quad "monoblock digital-to-analog" architecture, with a single DAC device for each channel.
The standard finish for units with a Natural front panel includes silver handles, knobs and a silver top-cover. Or, a Black finish on the front pannel, handles, knobs and top-cover is available.
Sonically, the DSPre is simply captivating, with a transparent, extended and relaxed presentation that is unlike other solid-state products - you will know that this product came from Audio Research. The sound is spacious and focused, resolving so much information but without any brightness, gain or artifact.

The MCD1100 CD Player features a True Quad balanced performance using four DACs per stereo channel. More than a simple CD player, the MCD1100 will play CD, SACD, MP3, and WMA discs at the highest possible fidelity, yielding your maximum musical enjoyment. Five additional digital inputs and outputs are available, allowing the use of a variety of digital devices.
In addition to MP3 devices, a MAC or PC can be connected through the dedicated USB input for superior playback of stored music using any popular music management programs.
With high-performance variable-volume balanced-outputs, the MCD1100 will run any power amplifier directly, or it can be used for private listening, with its built-in dedicated headphone amplifier.

Audio Research Co. DAC8 Digital-to-Analog Converter
Although aesthetically similar to its predecessor, the New! DAC8 digital-to-analog converter represents the newest engineering, pushing state-of-the-art high-resolution USB audio and S/PDIF audio to a whole new level.
In the DAC8, Audio Research has maximized the USB capability by incorporating USB 2.0 High-Speed which runs at 480Mbps. USB 2.0 HS has a lower jitter specification than USB 2.0 Full Speed (12mbps) so consequently, the DAC8 is capable of reproducing music at a higher definition & resolution than other products communicating at USB 2.0 FS speeds. Regardless of which digital input you select (S/PDIF or USB) the Dual Master Oscillator with the Quad D/A converter works to elevate USB audio, promising a superior listening experience with both inputs.
The DAC8 also features the "DAC8 HD Audio Device" software drivers, which allow listening to your music in its native sample-rate as well as assuring BIT PERFECT, low jitter, data transfer from the computer to your DAC8. Because PC & MAC operating systems do not adequately support sample rates of 96kHz, Audio Research has developed ASIO drivers to make the USB audio experience sonically transparent at all sample rates.
Music lovers can use custom sample rate conversion algorithms or other file formats provided by third party suppliers, such as: Windows Media Player, iTunes, Media Monkey, FooBar, and many others to optimize your music experience. The DAC8 has a fully-balanced zero-feedback solid-state design, that utilizes a direct-coupled FET output stage with generous regulated power supplies and seven stages of regulation. There are separate new digital and audio power transformers, and the board material is the same as ARC's Reference products.
Dynamic, forceful, immediate, and possessing remarkable resolution and transparency, the DAC8 is a sonic knockout that is worthy of the finest music systems.
